Game development stuff. Yeah.

Hoo boy, a post before my birthday within a week. Also, no jokes here, I know it's April Fools but I don't feel silly enough to make one ripe for the holiday. [it's rated m cuz none of them have content ratings]

Okay, so let's talk about my game projects so far. At the moment, I have two game projects. Yes, I know that I technically have three because Jonathan's Adventure: Bickery Edition (For new people, get used to the abbreviation I'm going to use, JABE.) but it doesn't count because it's probably TOO big to fit in Newgrounds to be uploaded as a game. I know that the game isn't finished, but let's consider how I'm building it: if I'm including stuff like a day system that has a mixture of social elements from Persona, contains voice acting, and not to mention multiple routes that can affect what ending you can get, and this also includes New Game Plus saves and also game behaves a bit differently once you've beaten it, then am I really describing a game that can fit under a 1 gigabyte limit? Definitely not and even if I knew how, there's going to be technical problems in the way to make it happen. I'm terrible at coding and working with code that I don't know how it works is going to be a pain. There's a reason why you don't see any of the devlogs from GameJolt to here and this is because it would be tedious to copy and paste here and also that JABE as a game alone isn't really appealing when you look at it at surface level, it's another fan game that uses RPG Maker with a Parappa the Rapper rip-off as the main lead. I mean my submissions' score is proof of it, so am I really going to post a game that people won't likely enjoy it because of that despite my game philosophy is "just because it's a fan game, it doesn't mean the writing nor the game has to reflect that." Snoot Game is my biggest case in point because of how it's better than the original game "Goodbye Volcano High", the game it's based on, mainly due to the character writing and its' plot. Not going to mention the art because it feels like a easy point to make; like of course Snoot Game has better art than GVH, I don't understand why GVH didn't use 3D models in the first place given there were 3D models for the character made in the game. I could just put this meme here instead of just elaborating a bit more of why Snoot is better than GVH, but point is Snoot Game is very influential to me and makes me want to make video games.

Now we get the JABE stuff out of the way, let's talk about the first project. In fact, this is the reason why I wanted to make this post because originally, I was going to make this project be done within April 1st, but I, as usual, overestimate how I'm going to make this game be done in this month or that month. At this point, I might as well stop it because I do it too much especially for games that wouldn't be done in something like a MONTH due to the circumstances, as most of these projects that I'm working on, aside from collabs of course, are handled ONLY by me as the developer. And to compare this from Jonathan's Adventure: Classic, me being the only staff feels like understaffed. I know that there's another guy that's also developing the project but problem is that guy's recently too busy on looking for Poppy Playtime content mills and making a Google Spreadsheet about it. So yeah... This is going to suck. But let's talk about it more on it. Because I like keeping the project a secret (Because I like surprises very much.), I'm not going to mention the exact details. If I had to describe what it is, it's probably something like a parody but like a remake of a game. Sounds contradictory but that's how I describe it anyway because that's how it's built. And that description itself makes me worry and this is a risk I take because of this rule I'm concerned of: "Your game must not be a modified version of someone else's work, including tutorial files." Now, the game itself doesn't share the same code and it's on a completely different engine, but because it's designed to be a game where it has a threshold of one end being playing the game exactly how it is with some modifications, and the other end giving you at least a completely different route sprinkled with random events happening (Which you can disable OR enable them to happen without any RNG by the way.) OR a new separate game that doesn't work with the expectations of the original game it's based on. I have a bad feeling that if it gets taken down due to that rule violation, I have to cut out one major chunk of the game, which I wouldn't think it's a bad thing for me, because like at least the other chunk is something we made, plus it's like ground zero, of course it's not going to be smooth sailing, at least there's something to learn WHEN there's something horribly wrong with it.

Now, another project, as I mentioned before, is something that I'm working on but it has no relations to JABE or the other project previously mentioned. If I had to describe what it is, it would probably be "hedonistic" because of how the protagonist is and also certain endings. It's a "safe" project and I say it like that because of how simple everything goes in the game, but I should note that this game barely has anything concrete for me to show, so don't expect everything that I say here will reflect the final product of the game. But the game is basically like this, the main protagonist, whether it's a boy or a girl, has a girlfriend (Yes, this makes it a LGBT-ish game only because the fact you can choose a relationship to be between a man and a woman or 2 women, no, this will not be a selling point of the game.) and these two order a pizza, then antics ensue. A reason why I characterize the project to be hedonistic is because of how I make the protagonist. The protagonist practically is a womanizer and so far, there are endings that dabbles on it. You can make the protagonist have a normal-ish relationship, giving you a neutral ending, you could make the protagonist make it spicy, and maybe add some extra girls in there, or fail and pursue a much edge-y ending. The reason why I do this is because I kinda like making a character where they're debatable stereotypical hetero cis male (Sure, it doesn't apply if you were playing as a woman, but the point still stands.) but also probably a stereotypical shonen protagonist. Of course there are going to be video games, TV shows, stuff like that thrown into the mix. If anything, if I had to compare what game to describe this game, it's Toilet in Wonderland, but I actually really like that game's style and you don't see a lot of VIPRPG games nowadays, mostly because these are games made in Japan and unlikely are translated in English. Hell, I've heard that the style of the game is something like a YTP which, as something I completely love and enjoy, makes a whole lot sense and I can see why. Hell, it even pops the question of whether or not you can transcend YTPs from video to video games.

yeah that's it okay bye
